Starting something new...
Starting to work on my Jewellery business via Shopify, but also making it into a fresh start with new branding, E-mail accounts, business paypal etc... and moving away from the ailing Etsy as a selling platform...
With this in mind I've been doing a rebranding exercise, coming up with a name that succinctly captures what my business is about, rather than the older name I used (Spoon37) which was 'super cool' as an edgy e-mail address in the year 2000, but less relevant today.
The name I've come up with is Keepsake jewellery - whilst the dot com of that is taken I've found only slight variations are ok, and a quick lookup confirm my suspicions: no one is using keepsakejewellery.com? I could have got that url, but the cheapest option was to use a broker to negotiate on my behalf for about £77? seemed a bit much for not being certain if I would even get it.
I have had to do my homework as many of the business names I thought of either had to be severely mis-spelt (e.g. 'classey', or 'dazzl') or else were not only copyrighted but also existing jewellery businesses! If you are reading this and thinking of starting a business using a random name generator, be sure to look up those names just in case - many of them are already businesses, even if the names are available on platforms like shopify.
In terms of setting up shop, I'll be honest I'm not finding the Etsy migration as straightforward as I had hoped - as a small example: the tools recommended from migrating shop listings & pricing from Etsy is called 'Shuttle', this worked well but as soon as they wanted to "simplify marketplace selling" in the very next step suddenly the exta addon(Shopify Marketplace) is incompatible with shuttle and it needs to be removed? making my free trial of Shuttle pointless...
Ah well, I'll figure it out. I'm making this post publicly viewable but the actual shop which will be 'Keepsake Jewellery' isnt quite ready yet, watch this space!
