Listings and Heatwaves...

Just to keep people in the loop - I'm adding more and more listings daily: I have a large inventory to add, for example I have a range of rings that so far are not featured at all, but will be soon! Watch this space.

I am a one man business, so obviously if I need a break nothing gets added so just bear with me while I add these things. It's currently a heatwave in the UK which is oppressive, so for example whilst I am fine adding to my shop online, I cannot currently work in the workshop as its much too hot in there, so no new jewellery for a few days.

That said I am slowly starting to get comfortable with Shopify: I am exploring ways and means of grouping items together so its easier to find something like say copper jewellery, or earrings or similar - I might be wrong but im fairly sure thats how people approach shopping: i.e. "I want some earrings" for example.

This probably sounds quite minor when theres only a page or so of items, but when were adding a large inventory there will be multiple pages to scroll through, so I want it to be possible for customer to just pick what sub-set they want.

I will be taking a holiday in August so all of this will need to go on hold for a couple of weeks - thats why so far I'm not going crazy with promotion of the shop or blog: I will do much more of that later on, but it seems weird to me to invite people to a shop only to find it's closed.

I have discovered a few more pitfalls, the previous blog entry thumbnails for example, I posted a selfie last time but the letterbox frame for it in the list of blogs focusses on my double chin! Thanks Shopify lol.

In other news the shop banner picture at the moment is a place holder, whilst the marigolds are pretty and the text is ok, its not great - and I want it to be much better. My intention is to try some low-key light photography with a few of my best selling items on a black bakground.

Speaking of placeholders - I've become concerned lately that the written descriptions of my items sound less than professional: in other words they are focussed on individual items, my making them and posting them out as a one man business - I'm aware that larger business word things less personally: but I'm not sure if I should change that or keep it; as its true, I am a one man business, and it's realistic.

Thanks for reading!
