Grand opening!

Grand opening!

Its Keepsake Jewellery's Grand opening! At least on shopify...

So it's taken a little while to jump through the hoops, the 'migration tools' for Etsy dont seem quite as comprehensive as I had hoped, but it has grabbed most of the items: I'll be spending the next few days adding the inventory to the shop - there's about 125 high quality items to add!

Presently I'm only opening with 4 items available, but as I've had to fully redo two of those it's taken me much longer than I had hoped. Watch this space!

Initially I was less than impressed with the default listing category for my items as "imitation jewellery"??? it's real metal jewellery and that description makes it sound fake? it turns out they mean that unlike "fine jewellery" its not made from gold/silve/platinum and is a cheaper alternative that makes use of less expensive metals like brass, copper etc... I'd still like it to sound better like "affordable jewellery" or "costume jewellery" though!

Whilst on the subject I thought I might share an anecdote:

Whilst selling on Etsy a few years ago, someone send me a message to ask if a particular bracelet then costing £85 could be made from rose gold? - the answer was yes of course, however I costed it out for them: each material line by line buying as little 9ct rose gold wire as I could to make the bracelet, the bill for just materials (nevermind the time for making it) came to £583 - for some reason the questioner didn't get back to me after that? So if anyone feels the urge to ask for precious metals, this can be arranged of course, but you must also be realistic about the cost of raw materials*.

Oh and I tried to change my old Etsy shop to reflect the new branding here, but apparently "keepsakejewellery" and most synonyms are taken already? I might be stuck with that store being "spoon37" forever! oh well...

Thanks for reading!

*I think the person on Etsy had assumed it could be made in rose gold for the same price as copper - I'm not a miracle worker!
